As we delve into the enchanting month of October, our monthly theme of “Embracing Change” takes us on a journey through the tapestry of transformation. Change is a fundamental aspect of life, just as the elements of nature have always evolved, and in embracing change, we find the opportunity for growth, renewal, and spiritual connection.

In my coaching practice, I’ve always been deeply connected to the elements of nature – the whispering forests, the ever-watchful Moon, and the infinite expanse of stars. I believe in a holistic approach to self-discovery, and that means inviting my clients to explore the spiritual symbols, archetypes, and elements to which they feel a deep, resonating connection. It’s a practice that holds incredible power because, more often than not, our hesitations, procrastinations, and reluctance to leave toxic or unhealthy situations stem from not listening to ourselves meaningfully.

This brings us to a profoundly significant event on the horizon – **Samhain**. This ancient festival, whose roots lie in Celtic and Pagan traditions, marks the crossroads between autumn and winter, light and dark. It is a time of profound significance, celebrated at the end of October and the beginning of November. As the world around us transforms with the changing seasons, Samhain offers a beautiful parallel to our theme of embracing change.

**The Origins of Samhain:**

Samhain, which means “Summer’s End” in Gaelic, holds a rich history rooted in the belief that during this time, the veil between the physical world and the spirit world becomes its thinnest. It’s a time to honour and remember those who have passed on, a time to reflect on our own mortality and the cycles of life and death. Samhain marks the end of the harvest season, a time when the ancients would stockpile resources for the long winter ahead. It’s a moment of deep connection with the earth’s cycles and a time to give thanks for the bounties of the year.

**Embracing Change with Samhain:**

Samhain encourages us to embrace the inevitability of change and to acknowledge the interconnectedness of life and death. It’s a poignant reminder that change is not just a personal journey but a universal one, a cycle that we are all a part of. As the seasons shift and the world around us transforms, Samhain teaches us that we must let go of what no longer serves us and prepare for the new beginnings that await us.

**Celebrating Samhain with Embracing Change in Mind:**

So, how can we celebrate Samhain while keeping the theme of embracing change close to our hearts? Here are a few ideas:

🍁 **Create an Ancestral Corner**: Set up a special space to honour and remember your ancestors. Light a candle, write a short message to them, and take a moment to reflect on the wisdom they passed down to you.

🌌 **Meditate on Transformation**: Find a quiet moment to meditate on the themes of change and transformation. Consider what you’re ready to release and what you’re eager to embrace in the coming months.

🌕 **Moon Gazing**: Spend time under the moonlight, contemplating the cycles of life and the ever-changing phases of the Moon. Write down your intentions for embracing change and place them under the Moon’s gentle glow.

🍂 **Harvest Reflection**: Just as the ancient Celts would take stock of their harvest, consider your own personal harvest this year. What have you gained, and what have you learned? How can you apply these lessons to embrace change in the year ahead?

This Samhain, let us embrace change with open hearts, like the falling leaves that surrender to the wind. Let us honour the wisdom of our ancestors, the cycles of life, and the profound connection between ourselves and the world around us. May this season bring clarity, transformation, and a deep sense of empowerment as we continue our journey of embracing change mindfully.

As we journey through this month of embracing change, we’ve explored various aspects of how change impacts our lives and the benefits it can bring. Now, I want to talk about one of the most powerful tools we can use when navigating change: mindfulness.

**Mindfulness** is the art of being fully present, without judgment, in every moment. It’s about observing our thoughts and feelings as they arise, and this practice can be an incredible ally in times of change.

Change is inevitable, and it often brings uncertainty, fear, and discomfort. But it also holds the potential for growth, transformation, and new opportunities. To fully embrace change, we need to do it mindfully. Here’s how:

**Stay Present**: Change can be overwhelming when we dwell on the past or worry about the future. Being mindful means focusing on the here and now. What’s happening at this moment? What can you appreciate in this moment? These questions help ground us in the present.

**Learn and Grow**: Change is an excellent teacher. Mindfulness encourages us to explore the lessons change brings, to understand ourselves better, and to adapt more effectively. When we approach change as an opportunity to learn, it becomes less intimidating.

**Positive Mindset**: Mindfulness can help us cultivate a more positive outlook on change. Rather than seeing it as a threat, we can view it as a chance to embrace new experiences, meet new people, and explore uncharted territories.

**Seeking Support**: Mindfulness also reminds us to reach out for support. When change feels overwhelming, it’s perfectly fine to lean on your support system – family, friends, or a professional. Mindfulness can help you recognize when you need assistance and to ask for it without judgment.

So, let’s loop this back to our monthly theme. **Embracing Change** means more than just acknowledging it; it means diving into it with an open heart, ready to learn and grow, and viewing it as a natural part of our life journey. Mindfulness is a wonderful companion on this journey, helping us make the most of every twist and turn.

Resilience, the capacity to bounce back from adversity, to adapt, and to grow, is our trusty companion on this tumultuous path.

The beauty of resilience is that it’s not an innate trait but rather a skill that can be nurtured and developed. One way to do this is by recognising and leveraging your unique CliftonStrengths. For those of you unfamiliar with CliftonStrengths, it’s a tool that identifies your top strengths among 34 unique themes. Understanding and applying these strengths can help you face change with more confidence and grace.

Let’s dive into how these strengths can aid in building resilience:

1. **Adaptability**: If Adaptability is one of your top strengths, you likely excel in adjusting to changing circumstances. You’re the master of going with the flow, making you naturally equipped to handle life’s twists and turns. You find comfort in change and can help others do the same.

13 is not bad luck; it’s a beautiful symphony of nature and spirituality!

The 13 cycles of the Moon in a year are a celestial dance, a reminder of the ever-changing, cyclical nature of life. Just like the Moon waxes and wanes, so do we. Embrace the ebb and flow, and find your power in the cosmic rhythms.

And then there are the 13 cycles of a woman in a year. A woman’s body is a sacred temple, intricately connected to the Moon’s cycles. Ovulation, the moment of creation and potential, often occurs on the 13th day of a woman’s cycle. It’s a time of fertility, a time of bringing life and creativity into the world.

Friday the 13th isn’t a day to fear; it’s a magical day! It’s a moment where these cosmic cycles align, inviting us to tap into the mysteries of the universe. It’s a day to honor female spirituality, to celebrate the divine feminine within us all.

So, my dear friends, let us cast away superstitions and fears. Let us celebrate the beauty of 13, the sacred connection between the Moon, our bodies, and our spirits. Embrace the magic, embrace the cycles of life, and let your inner light shine on this special day.

As I reflect on the theme of “Understanding Change” in this week of my personal growth journey, I’m struck by how our perception of change shapes our experiences and influences our ability to adapt, grow, and thrive.

Change is Inevitable

The first fundamental truth we must acknowledge is that change is inevitable. From the changing seasons to the natural aging process, from career shifts to personal relationships evolving, change is a natural part of life. Embracing this reality is the first step towards understanding change.
