Challenge a negative thought

I am the main character, the nameless hero of today’s story. I didn’t feel very well in the morning: I was tired, and my body was in pain. It would have been nice to curl back in the bad and stay there all day. But at the same time, I knew I had a lot to do. In the car back home, I had the craziest thought that I wanted to exercise. I imagined it would feel so good if I just did some basic movements, it might help to ease the cramps too. Then I heard the familiar voice in my head: “There’s no time for this today. You’re not even well. Why would you force this now?” At first, I nodded to myself. But when I got home, I took out my yoga mat, changed my clothes and turned on the music. I felt more and more energised and happy. I warmed up slowly to take care of my spine and joints. I didn’t want to do a workout today to cause pain, punish, or burn that fat but to heal, give strength, nourish and motivate. Nobody but myself.
 
Challenge a negative thought
When I say challenge a negative thought, I’m asking you that the next time when you reply immediately with something like „No, I can’t” or „It’s impossible”. Then stop for a moment and look at this thought. Because many times these drivers turn on because it is easier not to change anything because “oh, it wouldn’t work for me anyway”. Are you sure? Have you tried? No, because it’s much easier to say the usual. You already know that, even if it’s not good for you anymore. The root of these can often be found in childhood. But the fact that someone told you at the age of ten that it wouldn’t work for you anyway, and then you believed it, doesn’t mean that you can’t question it at the age of 30-40. Just because you failed ages ago doesn’t mean you can’t do it now. Dare to challenge negative thoughts and see that something is no longer as it used to be. These internalisations are formed to protect us as children. But even as adults, they accompany us and often keep us in good old comfort zone when we step on an unfamiliar road.
 
Back to my workout story. My inner voice advised me to be lazy today, while I felt it in my body, and I knew from years of experience that it is better for me (both mentally and physically) to do the workout. And you know what? It was amazing because I won against my negative self.

Without actions, dreams stay in the drawer

There is a little twist in this sentence. Namely, it is not true just by itself, you may have dreams, but if you don’t do the work for them every day, you’ll just stay where you are now.
“A goal without a plan is just a wish”, said Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. That’s why you do a little bit every day for your goal.
Furthermore, If you still feel likYou're closer to your goals today than you were yesterdaye you’re just going in circles and not getting anywhere, maybe it’s worth sharing your ideas with someone else and looking at your plan from a different perspective.

Gamification

This month we’re focusing on self-care in my group. To support us, I’ve created a self-care bingo. The game’s purpose is regular bingo: mark off the square every time you complete an action on the board. Once you complete a line across, up and down, or diagonally, it’s a win! Award yourself with something nice that lifts your mood.

Self-care is something we think is a luxury, but it is essential. You can share from an empty bowl. You can’t spend quality time with your family or friends if your batteries need to be refilled. Maybe you want to be more resilient, relaxed, and spend more time with your loved ones. But you can’t just rebuild your habits from one day to another. Small steps are sustainable. The less is more. Every day focus on just one action on the board.

Emotional cup

For me this is walking in the woods, horse riding, spending time with friends, reading a good book.

Women’s circle from September

From September 2022, I will facilitate small women’s groups about different topics. The first 6 sessions’ topic will be Parenting and Motherhood. Beforehand there will be a charge-free initial webinar to show you how is this work, what you can expect, and how fun it will be. I’ll share a few activities, games, and tools to introduce how we support each other on this journey. The sessions run separately in English and in Hungarian. Work-life balance vs time management

As parents of 3 children, our family and work-life are in a constant plan and re-scheduling cycle. Because someone gets sick or there is a school holiday or any other reason.

So, what can I do?

The most important is: Don’t panic and carry a towel! 

Second, I usually combine these tools: the 4D-s technique and prioritising square.

  1. Drop – not important, not urgent
  2. Delegate – not important but urgent, and someone else can do it for you
  3. Delay/Defer – important but not urgent
  4. Do – important, urgent and can do quickly

It is sometimes hard, especially with family duties when you have teamwork with your partner. One thing I find personally tricky is keeping the balance between work-life-me time. Like many clients, I was used to giving up my self-care time for work or family. I love the analogy that mums are the fireplace of the home, which I think can be true. However, we need to take care of our inner flame and refill our batteries. The idea of parenthood is not just about giving everything to our children but showing them a role model. And if they see if we’re on the phone or laptop all the time, if we never give a moment to ourselves, they’ll recreate this dynamic in their lives too. Honestly, I found this terrifying. That is why I found useful the prioritising square and sometimes put myself first but last.
